Autoclaves and Sterilizers – Operational Steps In Using And Maintaining An Autoclave

January 31, 2012

In order to provide the highest standards in infection control, a perfectly maintained autoclave or sterilizer is of utmost improtance.

While most surgical instruments nowadays are manufactured from stainless steel, care and attention is still required to enable the instruments to provide better services and to ensure that they remain in the best condition even after a prolonged period of use.

Here are some simple but important operational steps to be followed to ensure your steam autoclave works to the desired purpose and to ensure they would be well maintained.

Instruments to be autoclaved are to be done so in distilled water, tap water or soft ware as hard water have the tendency to leave behind deposits on the instruments, and affect the joints of the instruments, often making them stiff.

After the instruments are used, clean and decontaminate all instruments in cold or lukewarm water. The primary purpose of doing so is to ensure that the instruments do not become stained and so that the joints do not become stiff.

Generally, put the instruments that are to be sterilized into the dressing drum of the autoclave, making sure that the holes of the dressing drum are opened to allow the steam to enter the dressing drum and reach the instruments to be sterilized, and place the drum into the autoclave.

After placing the lid on the container, tighten the lid by opposite locking nuts.

As soon as the pressure gauge shows a pressure of 2lbs, allow the enclosed air to escape by opening the air exhaust valve.

As the pressure reaches to about 15 lbs or the equivalent of 1.05 kgf per square cm, the main safety valve will automatically come into operation and start blowing off excess steam maintaining pressure of 15 lbs inside the autoclave.

To open the container, apply some firm force by holding the lid handle and turn it towards the right, till both the arrow marks on the lid and container co-incide. Then lift and remove the lid using the lifting handle.

When unloading an autoclave, it is a good idea to open the door and wait 10 minutes in order to assure proper evaporation and drying before removing the cart.

The most frequent reason for sterilization failure is lack of contact between the steam and the germs that you are trying to kill.

Air usually moves to the bottom of the autoclave because it is heavier than steam and is then forced out through the drain.

It is essential that packs are placed on their sides to make sure that the air is not trapped and cannot escape.

It is also easier for the air to be forced downwards between the packs than to go through the many layers of packs that have been placed flat.

By operating the autoclave using an operational checklist, and by maintaining an operational log, it is possible to reduce human errors of operation and to troubleshoot difficulties that arise during operation.

Where it is a health service such as a hospital that requires sterilization service, a Central Supplies And Stores Department or CSSD manned by qualified and experienced CSSD technicians and nurses will be necessary to enable the highest standard of health care and to ensure the surgical instruments and supplies are well sterilized, enabling the autoclaves to have the optimum lifespan of service as they are well taken care of and maintained.

There are many types of annuities available and knowing which the right one for you is can be difficult. With so many different annuity plans, its easy to feel confused and a little lost! Before committing yourself to any annuity contract, you should look to consult with youre financial advisor, he will identify your personal circumstances and help you find the right annuity plan for you.

Ok, so what is an annuity you ask! Well, to put it simply, an annuity is basically a contract between yourself and the insurance company. You agree to pay the insurance company a lump sum of money and the insurance company invests that money and agrees to pay you interest on that sum over a number of years. To put it simply, an annuity is a loan. Of course, this is just a simple explanation and the details and terms will vary according to the type of annuity you do take out.

Nowadays, people have come to realize the importance of seafoods in our diet. Various studies and researches have proved that the best sources of good fats, vitamins, and minerals to promote good health can actually be found on different seafoods. The only drawback is that it took so many years for most people to realize the health benefits of having seafoods in their diet.

These are polyunsaturated fatty acids known to protect the body against heart diseases. These so called “good fats” also aids in lowering cholesterol, decreasing blood clotting factors, increasing beneficial relaxation in larger arteries and blood vessels, and decreasing inflammatory process in blood vessels.

2. One serving of fish two to three times per week keeps arthritis away.

There have been clinical trials that have shown that one serving of fish two to three times a week can actually lessen arthritis symptoms by fighting inflammation, decreasing fatigue and reducing morning stiffness.

3. Some varieties of seafoods were proven to strengthen the immune system.

Studies showed that certain varieties of fishes and shellfishes have very high antioxidant E, aside from vitamins E, C, D, and A. These antioxidants boost the immune system and also lower the risk of heart disease by reducing buildup of plaque in coronary arteries.

4. Seafoods in pregnant woman’s diet make smart and healthy kids!

6. Shellfish ensures healthy skin and eyes.

Different varieties of shellfish are rich in vitamins and mineral, aside from being very low in fat content. Hence, these guarantees healthy skin and promotes good eyesight because vitamins contained in shellfish aid in formation and use of red blood cells and muscles.

7. Children who eat oily fish may have lower risk of getting asthma.

9. Fatty fish are best natural source of Vitamin D.

In areas like the North America were people do not get enough Vitamin D, a nutrient important for stronger bones, substituting foods can be difficult because of a lack of vitamin D rich options.

However, after some careful studies, most nutritionist found out that fatty fishes are excellent sources of vitamin D. They said that a serving of fatty fish a day can provide 90% of today’s recommended dietary requirement for vitamin D.

10. Essential fatty acids found in most seafood variety may reduce the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Various reports have recommended that long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly those of the omega-3 family, can actually slow mental decline and even reduce the development of Alzheimer’s disease in older people. These kinds of polyunsaturated fatty acids are structural components of neural membranes and are linked to some aspects of nervous tissue functions.

With these kinds of fatty acids in the body, inflammation and proinflammatory substances in the brain are reduced from which Alzheimer’s disease, a type of dementia, is linked.

With all these viable health benefits of seafoods, no one can ever smell something fishy when eating fish and shellfish. Undeniably, seafoods are remarkable creatures marvelously made just for the health of it!

Copying Content – Still Valuable, or A Thing of The Past?

January 31, 2012

Within the virtual world of the internet, “content” is to “money” in real life. Content is our commodity, it is what people trade all around the world. But is “other people’s content” actually valuable?

There are many specialists out there that believe that content that has been copied is not valuable anymore and may actually penalize your website online for listing such content but I on the other hand beg to differ.

Ezine article directories world wide consistently list the same ol’ content as the other. They all pull into the same pool of authors who ultimately submit the same articles to each directory. My question is this, if copied content is not valuable anymore, why is it that these article directories are some of the most popular websites world wide?

See if you break down the authors article, you start to get clues as to why “copied content” can still be mistaken for original content.

Title & Author Stay The Same, But The Rest Is Not Just Gravy:

One constant is true for all articles submitted by authors: Their “title” and “author” are always the same but everything else tends to change in the process of submitting the article.

See, some article directories ask for a “description” to post online leading to the article. In many cases, I’ve seen authors simply make up their own description as they go which in turn gives the article a unique feel to it.

HTML Formatted Articles Changes The Dynamics Of The Article:

In other cases, some article directories allow for HTML to be posted with the article. When this is allowed, you will usually get a unique article created by the author and edited by the author. For those sites that allow HTML, there are others that don’t allow HTML which in turn depends on the article directory and its own “author guidelines” about a well formatted article. Some article directories allow images, while others do not.

Some article directories have “internal” HTML editors known as “WYSIWYG” editors. These act as an HTML editor which allows the author to personalize their article with bolding text, adding links, etc.

= = = =

With All Of These Different Scenarios, Is The Content Still Valuable?

ABSOLUTELY! Beyond and besides the fact that every article directory requires different methods of submitting your article, each article directory is also unique to each other thus providing different content around the article itself.

It’s well known that search engines do pick out and identify your “template” content, vs. your “internal” content but at the same time, your template content is unique and hopefully isn’t 100% copied somewhere else.

In Conclusion:

Although copied content is looked down on, every website out there has some form of copied content somewhere within their site. Whether it be within your menu system, or content. The fact is, you can ultimately change copied content into unique content by changing the dynamics or properties of the content itself.

How To Know When Not To Buy A Used Car!

January 30, 2012

If you are looking to save money by buying a used car, it can be a very viable tactic. However, even though you are on a tight budget, buying a used car should not be immediately decided upon and should take a lot of consideration. Why? This is to avoid throwing your hard earned money away.

Below are some pointers that may help you decide when to buy or not to buy a used car:

1. You should consider your budget.

If the reason why you choose to purchase a used car is because of your budget, then it should be the same reason why you should be careful and meticulous in choosing a used car. Thus, if the car needs a lot of maintenance, repairs, and other modifications, it is best not to buy that used car (or else you lose the benefits of buying a used car).

2. You should be wary of buying used cars from owners that do not have complete and pertinent documents.

This could mean a lot of negative things and you are the only one who will be at the losing end. Documents are crucial especially if the car is second hand. It is the only solid guarantee that you can get hold of when buying used cars. If this is the case, then, you might as well not pursue the deal.

3. If the you are not comfortable after test-driving the car, then it is best not to buy it.

There are instances wherein some people tend to opt for used cars because of the model of the car being sold. It is their dream car and there is no other way they can purchase them but to buy them second hand. However, if you are not comfortable with the car after test-driving it, then it would be better not to pursue the deal, even if it means the world to you to have that car.

The bottom line is that buying used cars should never be your sole alternative if you cannot afford to buy new ones. This means that you should value the process of choosing a used car like what you would do when buying a new car. In the end, it is your money that will be put to risk. Thus, it is extremely important to consider all the factors in order to have the best buy ever. Happy hunting!

Change

January 30, 2012

One thing in life is certain—change. Things never stay the same. If you are hoping for the status quo, then Im afraid you will be disappointed. Just think back to how things were five years ago and you will realize that there is so very much thats already different in a very short time.

Im sure there are some of you who know people who refused to adapt to the computer age. I still know some old timers who want to use word processors or even typewriters instead! Imagine. What is up with that?

Well, when change comes we have several options, some of which are more adaptive than others. Lets take a look at them.

The first option is to refuse to change or adapt to any new circumstances, just like the person who still uses a word processor. These are generally people who are afraid of change. I also think that underlying that fear is the fear of being inadequate. When change requires new learning, as it often does, some people dont think they will be able to master the new skills so it is easier to simply renounce the changes than adapt. The problem is that these are the people who are left in the dust.

The second possibility is the slow starter. These people usually start out in one of the first two mentioned roles—either refusing to change or anxiously running around trying to figure out what to do about it. They do not like change any more than the next person and they resist and resist until one day, they realize that the change may actually bring benefits. Once they see that there is a payoff for them, they fairly easily do the necessary things to adapt to the change.

A third possibility is what we see in the over anxious people in our midst. You know who they are. They are the ones who are always making mountains out of molehills and have a nervous energy about them whenever confronted with a novel situation. They imagine all the possible scenarios about what could occur and seem to just go around in circles. They dont adapt to the change; they just worry themselves sick over it.

The final and most rewarding possibility are the people who understand that change is a part of everything. When we stop evolving, we start eroding. These people welcome change, in fact, they frequently generate it. They realize that change is what makes things happen. Change propels us forward. These people are quick to make the necessary adaptations and suffer the least from the inevitable.

Do you recognize your own character in any of the above descriptions? Have you read Spencer Johnsons book, Who Moved My Cheese? This book is an excellent description of the four possible characters in the Change Game. In the book, the first character was a little person named Hem. Hem was afraid of change and believed it would make things worse. He avoided it at all costs. The second character was a mouse named, Scurry. Scurry ran around in circles, just attempting to do something, anything. Sometimes he was right, sometimes wrong but he was constantly in motion. The third character was a little person named Haw. Haw was slow to figure things out but eventually he adapted to the change and realized that the change could bring something better. However, the real winner was the mouse, Sniff. Sniff jumped into action early, sniffing out the terrain and making a choice on what to do next. He adapted the quickest.

Which character are you? Who would you like to be? What would you have to give up to be the character you really want to be? Would you like to make a plan right now to implement these changes into your life? It will require a commitment and a good plan.

This is where a coach can be helpful. When you identify an area in your life that requires some attention and you commit to making the necessary adjustments, its strange how life gets in the way sometime and we revert back to our previous ways. A coach is someone who can keep you on track and pointed in the direction of your goals. A coach will support your progress and hold you accountable for the goals you set.

Challenges in Introducing Value Education at Higher Education in India

January 30, 2012

Value Education is the much debated and discussed subject in the plethora of education in India. Of course it is true that the main purpose of any education will go with Value orientation. More concentration on Value education has been given at the primary and secondary level of school education than in higher education in India. Values could be effectively imparted to the young minds rather than to the matured ones. It may be the important reason for this prime importance given at the school level. There are so many modules designed with the help of agencies like NCERT and others for effectively imparting the value education to the school students. In this context, many innovative educational practices are being identified by the experts. Good number of experiments and studies are being conducted in the recent days on the effectiveness of teaching value education at school level. Some schools have very innovative and radical course designs to impart the values.

Effective teaching practices in imparting value education ranges from story telling, exhibitions, skits, one act play and group discussions to various other formats. New methods have been evolved by educationists to create an effective learning sphere. The usage of electronic gadgets also gains importance in the teaching-learning practices of value education. But at the higher education level, due to various reasons, the importance given to value education is not as much as it is given at the school level. The curriculum and the teaching methods also could be subjected to scrutiny. It is true that colleges are meant for a kind of specialization in some field of education. But in the Indian social context, the youth require direction and counseling at this stage. They have been exposed to various challenges at this stage which demands the intervention of educationists for his/her betterment. His/her character building also strengthens at this juncture. Students’ perception on various life factors and events are getting shaped at this stage. On the whole they evolve their own philosophy of life. Their sensitivity and knowledge are getting direction at this stage. Hence, an effective value orientation becomes inevitable to the students of colleges. Keeping this requirement in mind, States like Tamilnadu introduced a compulsory paper/course on value education to undergraduate students of all colleges in the State under the choice based credit system. Though this kind of effort is made with the good intention of imparting values to the youth, many limitations in bringing out the expected outcome could be identified.

The problem mainly begins with the definition of values. Defining the term ‘value’ poses a challenge to all scholars. The term value is loaded with varieties of meaning. Each meaning reflects its own philosophical position. Generally the term value is spontaneously associated with religious values. It is believed by many Indians that values are nothing but the religious and spiritual guiding principles of life. Hence, it is supposed that the path is already been laid for the life journey. But in the context of modernity and modernism there rises a fundamental question of whether value education is required at all in a modern state. There are those who argue that modern life is based on science and technology, and both are value neutral. They view that the values are bugbear held out by people living in the past, glued to outdated religious principles that have no relevance to the 21st century. At this point, there is also another group of modernist who propagate the necessity of value education at learning centres in order to safe guard the democratic state and its values. The values they wish to cultivate are modern secular values such as honesty, respect to other, equality, collectivity, democracy, respecting the human rights, sharing equal space in the public sphere and so on. These values are considered as the products of enlightenment period. Hence, four positions could be arrived at on the basis of the above understanding. The are:

1. There are religious values which are very much essential for every one and must be included in the curriculum.

2. The religious values should not find place in the educational system. They may operate at the private sphere.

3. There are non-religious secular values and they must find space in the education.

4. There is no need for teaching value education in the academics because they cannot be cultivated through formal learning and such value cultivation will make the individual biased.

In consequence to these positions, following questions arouse.

1. Whether value education should find place in the educational system?

2. If it is required, then what sort of values should be given preference in the curriculum?

3. What is the importance to be given to the religious values which are primarily developed on the basis of scriptures?

4. Can modern values alone are sufficient enough or is there any possibility of blending the values of modernity with religious values?

5. If religious values are to be given importance in the curriculum, which religion will find prime place? If there are contradictory propagation on a single virtue by two religions, then how are they to be handled?

6. Similarly religions differ on the practices also. Right from eating patterns, dress mode, marriage systems, war tactics, killing, punishments to various other aspects, religions differ on their outlook. In this situation, what sort of perceptions need to be taught?

Besides these questions, another billion dollar question would be raised on the methodology of effectively imparting those values. Then again as it is mentioned earlier, the school education can very well include this education easily because the system itself is advantageous for it to accommodate. But at the college level, the system finds it very difficult to work out. So this study could analyse the theoretical problems relating to the identification of values to be included in the curriculum at the one side and the problem of effective designing of the curriculum and imparting those values on the other side.

II

The necessity for imparting values to the students of all levels has been felt by everyone. The world today is facing unprecedented socio-political and economic challenges. Problems of life are becoming increasingly intense and complex. Traditional values are decentered. ‘An environment of strife pervades all countries and broken homes have become common. An insatiable hunger for money and power, leads most of people to tension and absence of peace of mind and all kinds of physical and mental ailments have become common place” 1. In the present day context of frequent and often violent social upheavals, we have to look at the problem of restlessness of the youth, their frustration born out of futility of their search for meaning of life and the purpose for which they are living, often leading to evil and wickedness. This calls for a new approach to, and a new vision of education. It is obviously felt that the present educational system promotes rat race and keep the student community in a sense of insecurity. Educational institutions have become the pressure cookers building pressures in the minds of youth. Also a loft sided educational pattern which insists on instrumental and technical rationality for the successful life in terms of gaining money and power has invaded the educational system of India. The person who is deemed to be unfit for this survival race becomes disqualified and ineligible to live in this market economy based life. The spate of industrialization and economic growth in developed nations has brought about a perceptible change in this scenario. And developing countries including India are feeling the ripple effects of this development. Values earlier considered essential by all societies have been eroded and have given way to unethical practices around the globe. Where honesty and integrity were loved and appreciated, greed, corruption and red tapism have come in, bringing in their wake, unethical responses which have pervaded all walks of life and are thwarting efforts of a few enlightened individuals to promote value based society.2 Hence, implementation of well structured education is the only solution available with all states. With growing divisive forces, narrow parochialism, separatist tendencies on the one hand and considerable fall in moral, social, ethical and national values both in personal and public life on the other, the need for promoting effective programmes of value orientation in education has assumed great urgency. Development of human values through education is now routinely seen as a task of national importance. Value education though supposes to be the part and parcel of the regular education, due to the market influences, it could not be so. Hence, it has become an inevitable need to include an exclusive curriculum for value education at all levels.

Now the next question would be about the nature of value education. What sort of values should be given preference in the curriculum is the prime problem in the introduction of value education. This problem surfaces because we can find varieties of values prescribed on the basis of various scriptures and theories. Sometimes they are contradictory to each other. This issue has been thoroughly discussed earlier. But the solution to the problem of the nature of value education is primarily dependent on the social conditions that prevail in the state. There need not be an imported value educational pattern to be prescribed in India. The burning social issues would demand the required value education. Though India is considered to be the land of divinity and wisdom, the modern value system throws challenges to the ancient value pattern. Right from the Gurkula pattern to the varna ashrama values, all values are under scrutiny by modern rationality. Hence, the relevance of the golden values prescribed by the then society is questionable in the present situation. On the other hand, the so called modern values which have been listed earlier also subjected to criticism by philosophers like post modernists. They question the very nature of the rationality of the enlightenment period. Because critics of modernity strongly declare that the modern rationality is the reason for the deterioration of human concern in the world and they paved the way for inhuman killing and escalation of values. The reason of the modernism is considered as the root of power politics which leads to inhuman behaviour of the power system, according to them. Hence the modern values like democracy, civil rights, environmental ethics, professional ethics, discipline and all such values are found useless in bringing harmony in the society. The values like discipline, tolerance, peace bears the negative connotation in this context. Hence, what sort of modern values are to be included in the curriculum is a challenge thrown towards the educationists. At one side the fanatic and fundamentalist features of religious values and on the other side the modern values based on the market economy and other factors are to be excluded and a well balanced curriculum with genuine worthy values suitable to the society has to be identified and included in the educational system. In this context, it becomes obvious that there cannot be any universal pattern of values to be prescribed in the system. When a suitable blend of religious and modern values is to be done, the designing of such course demands an unbiased, scrupulous, intelligent approach on the part of the academician who designs such course. Thus the spiritual values of sensitizing the youth for happy world and rational values for a just world are very much required. Religious values can be taken but not with the label of any particular religion, democratic values are to be included but not with its dogmatic inhuman approach. Thus there need a perfect blend of both. This is the real challenge thrown to the Indian academicians.

After the identification of these values, they need to be inculcated not to be informed to the students. Mostly listing the values is done very easily, but imparting them effectively requires genuine spirit and innovative educational practices. In the Vedic period, the gurukula system prevailed in which the student has to thoroughly undergo a pattern life with the guru shishya hierarchy. Whatever the guru declares are the values of life. But in the modern context, which is supposed to be the democratic sphere, a sense of equality and freedom has to prevail the learning situation. Also the values identified cannot be preached on the basis of the religious faiths. So the teacher has to find effective working module to internalize the values in the minds of the youth. The teachers’ understanding about the values prescribed and his/her commitment in imparting them also play a crucial role here. How to sensitize the teacher before carrying the values to the students is also a challenge to the educationists. The value education class room, if it is dealt with full seriousness and sincerity would be very interesting and challenging sphere for students and teachers. At times they need to sail at the same level with the students. The hierarchy may get disappeared. Value education demands a total responsibility from the teachers. They become more accountable. On the other side, a teacher who is committed to a set of values would always like to preach and impose them on the young minds. That extreme should also to be avoided with a balance of mind. Value education cannot be done by just delivering lectures and screening films. It requires a strong interaction between the students and the society. A lot could be experimented at this sphere. For which the supreme value ‘integrity’ is expected from the educator.

It is observed that many modules of teaching values have been designed and tested. Some are seemed to be very effective. In Tamilnadu, especially in aided colleges, with all good intention the government has introduced the value education as a compulsory scheme at the undergraduate level. But each university has its own syllabus for the same. The scrutiny of those syllabi also reveals a lot of variations in conceiving the value education. In some universities, some religion based institutions are given the responsibility of designing and even carrying out the course. Similarly the teachers who have not been exposed to any such type of training in value education are given the responsibility of teaching values. The introduction of value education for all under graduate courses is done at the cost of a core paper of that course. The teachers who have been handling their hardcore subject papers had to meet the shortage of workload due to this programme and to solve this problem, they have been entrusted with the job of teaching value education paper. This is done with the aim of avoiding the workload problem of existing teachers. The most valuable and sensitive part of education has been made like a mechanical dogmatic part. At this juncture, the fate of value education at the college level could be imagined. How to solve this issue is again a challenge to the educationists of Tamilnadu. The same fate could be observed in many other states of India. Hence, two important problems surfaces here, one at the syllabus level and the other at the teaching level. As it is discussed earlier the syllabus could be designed by way of paying attention to all aspects but imparting the same requires not only innovative teaching methods, but also innovative training method of the educators. It is as good as training the driver to drive the car; the teacher needs to be trained in imparting the values. The technical education employs teachers with sound knowledge in the subject, similarly it is essential to have teachers with sound mind and creative teaching skill to teach value education. Value education is definitely not to be dealt with compartmentalization but it should be taken as a part of the whole educational system. As Nietzsche puts it, the society requires masters to create and impart values, not the slaves who accept all the values imposed on them without any critical understanding.

If education fails to impart necessary values to its citizens, it will definitely have a telling effect on the society. All efforts to bring just and peace in the world will become futile if proper value education is not imparted.

China Business Travel 101

January 30, 2012

.ver wondered if you could deal directly with manufacturers… in China?! It’s easier than you think.

First Impressions
I visited China in Autumn 2005 with a group of business associates and must admit that I was amazed, both by the warm reception we received wherever we went, and at the factories we toured. Having never been there before, and having only news accounts of “difficulties” between China and the U.S. to fuel my imagination, I assumed things would be overly formal and official at best at worst, cold and we would be “watched” constantly. I was so wrong on both counts. We were treated as welcome visitors and had only to ask the hotel staff for something to have it almost magically produced.

Lost in Translation
Outside of the hotels and manufacturing facilities, doing business in the streets and in small shops was, at most times, terribly difficult. We had arranged our factory visits and business meetings with our contacts in China, and there were no problems on that side when it came to language. But once we stepped out on our own, we rarely found anyone – even in tourist gift shops – who could communicate in English at all. Next time I visit China, I’ll hopefully be armed with a few more basic Mandarin phrases, but for everyone visiting, even just for leisure, I’d recommend hiring translators to assist you.

Cash in China
Another word of warning: business owners back home in the States may be suitably impressed by your Gold Card, but to the Chinese shopkeeper it’s just a pretty piece of plastic that won’t buy a cup of Chinese tea. Even in the large cities, you’re going to have to carry around Chinese Yuan (aka Renminbi) in cash if you want to be able to go shopping or eat at a restaurant. I have to say, the upside of this is that you won’t find yourself going over budget. But with the incredibly low Chinese retail prices, that probably wouldn’t happen anyway.

Low Retail Prices
Once you’ve overcome the communication difficulties you’ll be amazed to find the bargains you’ll find in the small shops. For a start, it’s an electronics paradise. Just make sure you do your homework on what will and won’t work back in the States. For example, you’ll find that some Chinese DVD players, though remarkably low-cost, are manufactured to a Chinese standard that is not compatible with DVD discs sold in other parts of the world.

Factories in China
Our visit to a manufacturing plant in Huizhou left us all . . . well, ‘impressed’ hardly seems like a strong enough word. The building, on the outside was sort of drab looking with banners hanging here and there but inside was quite a different story. First of all we were treated as if we were VIPs instead of mid-level managers from Kenosha. Most importantly, however, the level of automation in this factory was remarkable, even by American standards and, when you look at the numbers, you see that the productivity is really impressive. It’s no longer a mystery to this American why China is finding such a willing market in America.

Back Again
I wish I had more than the seven days we were able to stay in China, but it won’t be long before I’m back, this time with a group of my friends who have been listening to me talking about the business opportunities since I got back and who now want to go out there to get a piece of the action for themselves.

Known for its picturesque mountain setting and peaceful serenity, the Greenbrier is nestled in the hills that made West Virginia famous. For years, guests were unaware of an underground bunker that had been built especially for high levels of government officials. In recent years, the hotel has offered tours of the bunker and its underground layout.

Sport as a part of our lives

January 29, 2012

Every day we get up, have our breakfast and rush like mad to whatever destination. We dont care about anything that is outside of our field of work. But when it comes to health we run like crazy to the hospital, forgetting about our daily routine. Now it is quite clear to us that we have to keep fit.and stay healthy to keep up with the speed of living today.
Someone buys a dozen of pills and remedies and crawls in bed with hope to get well soon and someone starts doing sports, tries to have a healthy lifestyle.

Doing sports doesnt really mean that you have to spend the whole day in the field or pitch running, jumping, making new records and winning the Olympics. To be frank, not every person has the nerve to do it. When we say sports, we mean simple physical exercises, that help us stay healthy slim and fit. A lot of argumentative essays can be written to prove the absolute necessity of some physical exercise, especially today, when we mostly come to work, sit with comfort in the chair till the rest of the day and then wonder where from did these extra kilos appear? But neither argumentative essay, nor discussions will make you think that way. You have to get the idea to do sports into your heads by yourself firmly. You can find a number of exercises on-line, in various books, on TV; even buy a video tape with necessary movements. If you dont have time to do it, just revise memories from your past (PE classes) and use it to get started. If you feel like you can use something unusual to get to know something new and to keep fit, you can use yoga or Indian dance. You have two pluses here: you get to know just a bit of the culture and feel that your body becomes flexible and slender.

If yoga or any other exotic art is too much for you, you can try simple aerobics. You can join a team and work out two-three times a week. This is also a good chance to make new acquaintances and enjoy some time in a good company. If you are a very busy person, you may use a video tape and have some good looking girl or handsome boy guide you on your way to a good figure. It is also a nice idea to reunite with your old friends and play some ball games in the free time. Youll love to have a soccer match and than chat with those whom you attended high school with. If you feel obliged to do exercises just to keep fit, you may just drop the idea because youll se no result. If you have no desire to work out and do sports, no matter how you try, you will never achieve positive results. To reach your aim you have to start from the corresponding attitude. Besides, no one can say that sports are boring and not worth even watching. Then why do we stay glued to the TV screen, watching the Olympics. We shout for our favorite athletes and deep inside feel that jealousy, which you cant bear. And when you see an athlete wearing a medal you imagine yourself taking the prize. Do sports and youll achieve your goal. Not necessarily your golden medal in sports, but maybe some results in other field where you are the best.

Neck and Shoulder Pain Relief – 5 More Ways

January 29, 2012

Copyright 2006 Wendy Young

It is very important to be aware of how we move, use and take care our bodies. Following are a few ideas that will help you increase your awareness to what you are doing with your body that can create pain.

Reach for Objects in Your Physical Comfort Zone

Frequently I notice people reaching out of their comfort zone. Your comfort zone is the area you can retrieve an item without moving or extending any part of your body. It is the area located in front of and directly to the side of your body.

If you are going to retrieve an item from behind your body, get out of your chair or swivel your chair around. Never reach for something while extending your arms behind your body.

Notice where you have placed often used items such as your telephone, reference books, pens, binders, etc. Are they on your desk or on the credenza behind you? Do you find yourself shifting your body or slightly lifting yourself from your chair to reach these items?

Is your phone causing you to twist your body left or right when dialing numbers? Can you move everything closer towards you? Are you getting the picture?

Stop and think about what would be easier for you throughout the day. Be adventurous! Simple adjustments to your desk will create less angst during the day and you will feel much more productive and a lot more freedom! Not to mention much more comfortable!

Professional and Self Massage

Neck and shoulder tension can be relieved with massage. Since the body works together as a whole treat yourself to a professional full body massage from time to time. In this fast paced computer age massage is more of a necessity than a luxury.

Add a few drops of essential oil to a small bottle of sesame oil and then apply to the area you are going to massage. It will make it much easier to massage your muscles. Self massage is easy to do with many of the massage tools on the market.

Neck Stretches

Simple and gentle neck stretches to the left and right will help to ease built up tension and get the oxygen moving again. If your neck feels tight, massage it first and then gently stretch. Stretching works better when the muscles are warm. Do not stretch in a cold drafty room if you have tight muscles.

Rest Your Arms Down by Your Side

Do nothing for about 10 -15 seconds every 10 -15 minutes. Let your shoulders recover several times per hour for seconds rather than a few times a day for several minutes. It will be easier for your shoulders to recover from the intense computer work they have been doing.

Stand Up

Every hour take a break and rest your body. Intense computer work takes it toll on the body. Take a walk. Drink some water. Do a few shoulder shrugs to release tension and interrupt your office neighbors. Who knows?? Maybe they need a rest break too!

Knowing Your 401k Plan.

January 29, 2012

Taking full advantage of your 401k plan today can help you achieve financial goals sooner, and provide enough income for a comfortable retirement. For most working people, Social Security checks alone will not be enough to maintain the standard of living they are used to, once they are no longer working. If you are lucky, your employer offers a 401k plan which, if used wisely and to the fullest advantage, can provide you with additional income for your golden years.

401k plans differ greatly depending on the employer who sets the rules. The only way to get the most out of the plan is to get to know it and make educated choices.

Things you should know:

- What is the maximum percentage of your salary you are able to contribute?
- Is your employer matching the contributions? If yes, what is your minimum contribution, before your employers contribution starts, and what is the maximum?
- What are the number of years you have to be with the company (so called vesting) to be eligible for the employers contributions to your 401k?
- How often can you switch among available investment options?
- Are earnings posted to your account on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis? When do you get your account statements? Note, it is always more beneficial if earnings are added to your balance more often.
- What methods can you use to access the account? By phone, on the internet or only in writing?
- Did you spread your money among different investments to reduce the risk?
- Did you learn enough about the investments you are using?

Do you know that 401k plans are not insured by the federal government, and its investments are at risk? However, different investments carry different degrees of risk. It is always best to diversify your investments by investing in different types of assets. To find out more about 401k investment options, ask your plan administrator for information. Financial magazines, prospectus and brochures can be a good source for learning about particular investment options.

All you need to do is visit these particular sites and click on a particular hypnotic routine, for example, if you want to quit smoking you will have to download the MP3 related to hypnosis for smoking.

Any hypnotherapist would agree to it when I say that sound is one of most important components of a hypnotism session. You find yourself listening to a calm voice telling you to relax and soak in the experience. In self-hypnotism this sense of sound becomes doubly important because of the auto-suggestion mode that we need to practice. And to discover that these hypnosis downloads are just a click away is a great relief.

There are yet other sites which have visual hypnotic experiments listed on their websites. Visitors to these sites can most often take a product test before they shell out money to buy the product. Some of these downloads come with detailed descriptions of what results to expect from a hypnosis session using the download; this is a desirable quality in a self-hypnosis scenario, since the user needs to keep track of the progress which has been made in a particular problem area after using the downloads for hypnosis.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that most of these tapes and scripts are designed by professional hypnotism practitioners and therapists; so you need not worry about the authenticity of these hypnosis downloads. Clean Tongues For Fresher Breath

January 29, 2012

You always brush your pearly-whites, you gargle antiseptic mouth rinses, and you floss. Throw in regular dental check-ups and you’ll think that you’re the poster boy for oral hygiene. What if I tell you that you’re forgetting something? Crazy, right? Nope, because you’re forgetting your tongue. You taste with it, you lick with it, and when temptation arises, you even wag it. Don’t you think it’s high time to start cleaning it? After all, I’m sure you don’t want to sport a white, abnormal-looking tongue.

An oft-neglected part of oral hygiene, tongues are not flat and smooth even if they appear that way to you. They have fissures which make for suitable anaerobic bacteria breeding places. This bacteria is the major source of stink breaths. Plus, you won’t be able to remove the viscous, jelly-like film of plaque covering your tongue through rinsing. What you must do is to scrape it. Scared?? Don’t be; because cleaning your tongue takes no effort. You could do it in as little as a 1-2 minutes.

Before you do that, read up to avoid scrubbing your tongue raw. First, you don’t have to buy special tongue cleaners since your regular toothbrush will do. However, tongue cleaners are easier to maneuver. Use a bit of toothpaste for added bacteria-fighting power. Secondly, hard scraping is not needed. When your toothbrush or tongue cleaner makes contact with your tongue, it’s okay. Third, use short, slow strokes. Also, make sure that no space is left unclean. Try to move your brush from the back towards the front. Also, relax your mouth after a few seconds with a gargle to avoid locked jaws and gagging. Fourth, pay close attention to the back of the tongue, more bacteria are there than up front. After you’ve scrape all tongue surface area, rinse, and apply a second coat of toothpaste. Leave the paste on for at least a minute. It is ideal to let the paste on until you finish brushing your teeth. After your last gargle, give yourself a smile and vow to add tongue cleaning as part of your oral hygiene.

But of course, don’t get any ideas that tongue cleaning can stop stink breaths alone. Be reminded that you still have to clean your teeth and gums. Dental check-ups are still a must. After all, only your dentist would ask about your oral hygiene and praise your clean, healthy tongue.

Connecting To The Other Side

January 29, 2012

I was sitting in my living room one day when a commercial came on for the Sci-Fi channel that said some guy was going to talk with the dead. This naturally grabbed my attention and the more I listep?ned to how this person was going to connect with friends and loved ones who have crossed over a light switch flipped on for me. I had the Ah-Ha moment.

I immediately wondered how John Edward did what he did. I started watching every show there was to watch and became obsessed with trying to communicate to the other side. I just knew that it was something that I had to try and do. I watched every show over and over again to see how John received the information. I grabbed every book that I could to see how others used their abilities. Some I resonated with and some I did not. Then I went to the internet to talk with other Psychics about how they received their information. Most were helpful but there were some psychics who I felt were limiting themselves. They had told me not to worry about getting certain types of information. Dont worry about names they said. But I knew that it was possible. John did it all the time. That became my mantra after a while. Well John does it, why cant I?

After time and dedication and quitting my real job as a morning television host, I became a professional psychic medium. I have built up what I consider to be a successful practice doing readings, teaching classes and yes, doing Galleries. I also refer to them as Psychic Tupperware Parties. Much of what I do comes from watching John on Television and I hope that I will meet him one day to let him know how much he has changed my life.

The first hurdle that you will have to get over is the recognition and the openness to know that the information you receive could be coming from a higher source. Once you have acknowledged this inside of your self you have come eighty percent of the way. The rest is passion, desire and commitment. This is a field where you get out of it exactly what you put into it. Technically, the same is true of life itself. Its like learning to sing or play soccer. How much effort and practice you put in is up to you. Do you want to sing at the Grand Ol Opry or are you content with singing to your hearts content in the shower?

Many people do not want to work professionally such as I do or like John Edward. Thats okayjust because you get into this doesnt mean that you are committed to doing readings and galleries. Some people just want to know that they are not going crazy. They want their lives to go a bit smoother by listening to that inner voice.

So what is your first step? Find out what your strength is. Do you have a very good imagination? Do you see things a little differently than other people?? Do you always seem to get that gut feeling when something is not right? Break out in a sweat? What about when you come home, turn on the light and the light flickers?….sometimes its a sign.other times it just means that you have to go to Wal-Mart and get new bulb! My point is, dont get too deep with this. It is very easy to go overboard and see too much into something and that can be just as clogging to the process as anything else.

So, back to your senses. Once you have figured out your strength, that is a good place to start. In future articles I will have some tips on how to find your strengths and enhance your psychic ability for whatever purpose you wish.

Baby Monitor Technology

January 28, 2012

Having a baby can be a nerve wracking experience for new parents – not the nine months of pregnancy, I’m talking about after the infant is brought home from the hospital. It’s always the same thing, by the time they have their third child they have it all figured out, but with number one it’s a learning thing.

Baby monitors help you hear your baby’s needs without you having to be in the room with the baby. Some baby monitors are portable, or “mobile” and are small enough that you can carry it in your pocket as you do your daily chores around the house. Depending on your price range it’s best to have a base unit that plugs into the wall. The receiving unit can be like your portable phone, you can carry it around with you, and plug it back into the base unit to be recharged.

Some people find that their baby monitor can be interrupted by cell phones, mobile phones, computer networks and even your neighbors baby monitors. Be aware of any potential interruptions before you put the monitor into official use. Also, make sure you get a monitor with a receiving unit that emits a tone when the battery is going low so you won’t be caught with a dead battery.

Another consideration before purchasing a baby monitor is the range the monitors have. If you have a more regular sized home say 1,800 you probably won’t have any problem with a conventional baby monitor. If you live in a home that has square footage of 4,000 or more, or if you live in a multi level home you may need a specific type of unit.

There are baby monitors available that actually feature what is called a “sensor pad”. The pad is placed underneath the crib sheet and picks up any movement the baby may make. Some physicians recommend these types of monitors for premature babies.

Business service offerings and liquidity

January 28, 2012

Being all things to all people sounds good, but in most cases it reduces the liquidity of a business. Business liquidity encompasses the number of prospective buyers, the business valuation, and the amount of time required to market the then close the deal.

The most liquid scenario is a co-located web hosting client base, with no data center, offices, or employees, and only one owner/decision maker. This type of business can be under contract to be sold within 48 hours. (Post Letter of Intent due diligence, contract preparation, integration plans etc. all take a bit of time.)

The least liquid scenario is a web hosting company, which offers design services, has offices, a data center, and offers related services such as access, marketing services etc.

Valuation Difference:
Something I have seen many times is the owner/decision maker on the sell side has heard web hosting company valuation formulas and wants to apply that formula to his company. Inevitably the owner is disappointed when the offer comes up short in their mind, and passes on what actually is a fair valuation.

Design Services:
The decision to staff up and start offering web design services to complement the pure play hosting recurring revenue is a huge decision with regards to the effect on business liquidity. Of course design services can be a natural fit with hosting clients by helping to reduce client churn and up selling existing clients. However, the value of the revenue and cash flow generated from one-time design jobs is no where near the value of the recurring hosting revenue and cash flow.

Negatives of design departments when it comes time to sell:
From the buyers perspective, acquiring the entire company and keeping the design efforts going is risky. Its 50/50 whether the key design people will stick around after closing regardless what they or the seller states. In addition, if you have to replace key people, the new staff will not have the relationships with the client base.
From the buyers perspective, acquiring the entire company then canceling the design efforts is usually a risky decision as well. There are offices to deal with in addition to staff which needs to be let go both time consuming and detrimental to the existing client base.
My estimate is for every 20 buyers of a pure play hosting company, there are only 1-2 buyers for hosting design shop combos.

Internet Data Center:
Investing in an IDC may increase the value of the entire company by an enormous amount over time, but definitely reduces the liquidity in the short run. Typically smaller web host co-locate in the beginning, then at a later date acquire their own data center. In turn, the company will then offer space to other smaller host hence creating yet another service offering.

Owning an underutilized data center reduces the number of one type of buyer the cash flow buyer, yet invites a new category of buyer, the asset and cash flow buyer. The later buyer is looking to both grow through acquisitions and make the swap from co-location to owning the data center. The less remaining capacity of the data center, the more of a cash flow type deal it will be, hence usually more liquid.

Meet Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends

January 28, 2012

It often seems almost every child in the world knows the Thomas the tank engine and friends television show. A lot of them also have at least one of the great Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends toys. Sadly, some parents haven’t still heard of these cute railroad adventurers that live in a shed in the magical island of Sodor, despite the fact that Thomas has been around since their childhood too! For those parents, here is a brief list of the characters featured in the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends TV show.

Our first pal is also the star of the show: Thomas. Thomas is a blue tank engine locomotive, the number one engine in the Fat Controllers railway line. He is cheeky, friendly and kind, but he has the habit of doing jobs that are meant to be performed by bigger engines. He carries two coaches named Annie and Clarabel. Both Annie and Clarabel carry passengers, but Clarabel can also carry luggage.

The second engine in the Fat Controller’s team is Edward. He is proud to be Thomas’ friend and co-worker. His color is also blue, but he is older than Thomas. Like Thomas the Tank engine, Edward is very nice and kind to everyone in the island of Sodor. He is glad to help smaller engines in their work, and also when they get into any kind of trouble. Coaches love him, as all others do. Edward also plays the part of a “pacifier” locomotive: whenever the other engines are somehow misbehaving, the Fat Controller asks Edward to calm them down, and then Edward talks to them and soon things are back to normal.

The third engine in the team is Henry. Henry is a green locomotive. He is always proud of his shiny green paint, and everybody think he is a very handsome engine. He is a very long locomotive, and he is also very fast. Sometimes Henry gets ill, but he never says no to a job. I just don’t know why, but this is my favorite character of the Thomas the Tank Engine and friends show.

The number four engine is Gordon. Gordon is the locomotive that pulls the Big Express train. He is the fastest and most powerful locomotive in the entire island of Sodor, and he is very proud of that. In fact, he is so proud that sometimes he can get too arrogant. Gordon is the senior engine in the Fat Controller’s team. Usually, the other engines like to play tricks on him, which makes Gordon angry. However, he has a kind heart, and always forgives them. He usually uses his strength to help other engines.

The engine number five is James. He is a medium size engine that is really proud of his shiny red paint. He has six wheels.

The last one of the troupe is Percy. He is the engine number six in the Fat Controller’s team, and is also the youngest one of the locomotives. He is very kind and happy, and his job consists of sorting out the trucks in the yard.

The Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends TV show is a great learning partner for little kids, and knowing the basics about the characters will help you better relate with your children and help you follow along as both of you enjoy the delightful episodes of Thomas the Train, one of the best family shows on television.
